I've been taking pictures since I was little, when my dad gave me a grey square camera with a red plastic viewer. I remember watching him prowl around in our greenhouse, crouching down to photograph what looked to me like a bunch of dirt. But projected on the slide screen, his quirky shots turned out to be luminous images of tiny green shoots or intricate networks of roots that I hadn’t noticed. I caught the shutter bug (and travel bug) from him.
Having moved to Gloucester in 2022, I’ve spent much of my time photographing its natural beauty. Like my dad, I especially enjoy walking along the coastline and taking closeups of unlikely subjects like a tree stump or a crab shell: they can be so beautiful when you look at them more closely.
I also love photographing local dogs as they play with each other in the surf; their hilarious antics and expressions make each photo shoot worthwhile!
Gloucester Times staff photographer Jim Mahoney once said, “Gloucester is a visual paradise.” I couldn’t agree more, and I hope to share my images with the community.
